ART

This half term we are looking at nature for inspiration for our art work. Last week we sketched some leaves, fir cones, branches and berries that we found in the forest area and this week we modelled our findings using Plasticine. We practiced making marks in the Plasticine. Next week we are going to use clay.

Telling the time- outdoors!!!

This week we are learning to tell the time. We are learning to tell o clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to times. We went outside and drew chalk clocks on the playground and then we drew the hands to show different times. It was great fun and we learned lots about clocks.

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to the second half term. We hope you all had a lovely half term break and got to see some fireworks.
This half term we will be continue to read books by Julia Donaldson. We will be reading 'Postman Bear' and finding out about real life bears and writing our own information texts. If you have time, why not see what you can find out about bears at home on the internet or from books in the library.
In Maths, we will be learning about telling the time and carrying on with our times tables.
In Science we will be thinking about the effect heating and cooling has on materials.
It won;t be long and we will be starting to rehearse for our Christmas play- 'Christmas Around the World' (we will write with more details soon!)
Here's to a fun and productive half term.

PUPPET TIME

We have made puppets in D.T. We chose characters from the Gruffalo story and designed our own puppets. Have a look. We have made a puppet theatre and we will be acting out the story using our own puppets.

Letters to Julia

Today we have been writing letters to Julia Donaldson. We have been thinking of questions to ask her about her stories. We will send them to her and see if we get an answer.

Here is a letter written by Summer

Dear Julia

I absolutely love all your fabulous books. My favourite book is the gruffalos Child because it is funny. We have read Room on the Broom and and our own witches hats. How many books have you written?  We made our own puppets. I made the fox, or you could make a snake, Gurffalo or owl. How old are you? What people draw the illustrations? I keep wondering who does the illustrations. I like the Gruffalo, he is a bit funny and he has purple prickles all over his back. He's got orange fiery eyes and turned out toes.

Our Cinema Trip

Today we went to the cinema to watch Brave. We had a fantastic time. The film was about a princess who didn't want to be 'princess like' and didn't want to be married. There were lots of funny bits and also some sad bits. (Mrs Edwards has a tear in her eye!) and there was lots of adventure. We thoroughly recommend the film if you haven't seen it.

WITCHES POTIONS

As promised... here are a few of our recipes for witches potions.

The children were all really good at knowing how to set out their instructions using a what you need list and numbering their instructions. We became really good at using lots of bossy verbs to write our instructions.
